::finally..my baby is fine::

syukur sgt2 ke hadrat Ilahi..finally baby is fine..
masuk ward sehari je..keluar ward dgn wajah baru yang mantap..
baby looks very "sukan" as what my housemate~ ezita said..huhuhuhuhu..
as the partner aku syukur giler...
all baby's wounds were cured already..
xde la aku rse nk nangis setiap kali looking at baby..
i'm feeling better right now..
baby is fine at last..
today i sent baby to clinic again but this time around to check the inner parts of her body..
monthly check up..nothing was found affected..
thanks to God..
honestly,i really dont mind spending thousand of syiling for my baby..as long as my baby happy and healthy as usual..
when my baby was sick..i'm also in the sick mode~~
sume bende buat xkene, keep thinking of baby je..
now my baby is back to normal and i'm so happy..
i'll take good care of you,dear..

COMPUTER ASSISTED LANGUAGE LEARNING
ASSIGNMENT 2: ESL WEBSITE EVALUATION

1. What does the application attempt to “teach”?

The website is http://a4esl.org/a/g.html. Basically, this application attempts to help students learn English as a Second Language. It focuses on grammar, vocabulary and also bilingual quizzes. All the activities in this application are contributions from many experienced teacher out here in conjunction to the project of The Internet TESL Journal.

2. What sorts of things is the application user expected to do with regards to learning the content?

With regards to learn the content of the application, it requires user to fill in the blanks, answer multiple choice question, match, answer true and false question and the most exciting part is crossword puzzle. Moreover, it records the marks of the students’ performance.

3. What sorts of computer skills is the application users expected to have in order to operate/access/use the application?

Computer skills are ability to utilize the software or hardware of a computer. Therefore, in order to operate/access/use the application user is needed to have the ability to browse the internet in the first place. Then, user should know how to use the mouse in order to interact with the elements on the computer screen. Next, user should also know to use the computer keyboard. All these skills required are the basic computer skills. Thus, I think this application is user friendly due to basic computer skills requirement that would ease the user.

4. While you are “playing/accessing/assessing” the application, does it remind you of anything you do in a classroom, or with a teacher, or with a fellow classmate, or in self-study?

Yes, the application does remind me of the activity that I have carried out with my students during my practicum days. It is crossword puzzle. It did grab my students’ attention in learning. I did this type of activity during the closure or as the enrichment activity in the class. All my students did participate in the activity actively. Although, it is not using the computer but my students did enjoy the activity. I just made the puzzle using the flip paper and colourful marker pens. Therefore, I made a conclusion that this activity did attract students’ attention to participate. In general, I believe that students did enjoy activity in which look like a game. They worked and think better in competition situation. Thus, I also agree that this application could attract students’ attention to try and enjoy the activities provided. Furthermore, the activities are divided into several levels in which can cater all the range of students’ proficiency.

5. Can you pinpoint some theories of language learning and/or teaching underlying the application?

The theory of language teaching that applies in this application is Communicative Language Teaching (CLT). This is because CLT is student-centered in which emphasizes more on students participation on the activities. In this theory, teachers play role as facilitators and allowing students to contribute more in the learning process. These apply in this application whereby teacher serves as facilitator who gives directions to students only. Furthermore, this application also implies the Direct Method in which it uses the target language as the medium of instruction. Moreover, it emphasizes on linking meaning to the target language (cited in http://www.englishraven.com/method_direct.html).

6. How well is the constructivist theory of learning applied to the chosen website?

This application applied more on the Piaget’s constructivist theory. This is because this application particularly requires more students’ responses rather than teachers. Here, teachers are the facilitators whereby they facilitate students’ progress in carrying out the activities. According to Piaget, learning occurs through taking action and solving problems. Educational reflections of his theory stated that children are continually interacting with the world around them by solving problems that are presented by the environment. Therefore, when they are given this application as their environment, they would try their best to interact with the environment and solving the problems in order to gain knowledge about learning a language. Furthermore, Piaget also claims that cognitive development requires continuous effort in order for the children to adapt to the environment of assimilation and accommodation. In addition, Mclaughlin (1992) reports that “Accommodation is an important idea that has been taken into second language learning under the label “restructuring” to refer to the re-organization of mental representations of a language.” Thus, by using this application continuously, it could help students to learn second language which is English effectively. In conclusion, from the Piaget’s theory, it concludes that this application offering opportunities for students to learn English as the second language by involving themselves in the authentic environment.

7. In 1980s and early 1990s, there was a major debate on ‘whether the computer was “master” of or “slave” to the learning process (Higgins and Johns, 1984). In relation to your evaluation- was the computer a replacement for teachers, or merely an obedient servant to students?

In my point of view, I do not view the computer was a replacement for teachers. However, it is a tool to help teachers in educating the students. It is a ‘workhorse’ whereby it aims to empower learners to use and understand language. As the world changed, education system also changed. By using internet facility, it gives students chances to surf for the world wide application in enhancing the language. Based on the ‘International Email Tandem Network’ project by Hulmet Brammerts in 1993, students were discussing about the language through the email on a reciprocal basis. Therefore, it did show that computer also helps students in learning a language. In the other hand, it is also medium of transferring knowledge for students in learning a language. This is because it provides more authentic learning environment to the students in discovering the knowledge by their own. Moreover, sometimes it integrates more than one skill in transferring the knowledge to the students. For example, reading skill, speaking skill, listening skill and also writing skill.

8. Would you like to use the application yourself in your future work?

Yes, I would like to use this application in mu future work. This is because this application can be use as enrichment to students’ knowledge. Moreover, it can be an exposure for students in using internet because in certain area there is no internet facility at home. Therefore, students only have the chance to be exposed to the technology at school only. As a future teacher, I should make use of the opportunity in order to give them sufficient knowledge and also exposure to the technology world. Moreover, this application is good to be applied to students because it has different levels that follow students’ proficiency in the subject matter. For example, easy, medium and difficult. As students go through the activities they could gain their confidence step by step. This is because students usually start with the easy level first then followed by medium and difficult days by days.

9. Suggestions/recommendations.

This application would be much better if there are verbal instructions, sounds and also colourful pictures. In my opinion, verbal instruction requires students to be more alert in carrying out the activities. They tend to be more focus. Furthermore, sounds could make this application more attractive and effective for young learners. For instance, the sound of clapping hands if they get the answer right. This is because at the young age, they tend to be more motivated with that kind of sound. It is the same with coloured pictures. It gives impacts in students’ learning process.

9th-12th feb 2009...

it was very challenging yet an exciting camping..challenging coz i have to organized and managed a group of 90 participants..it was a big group for me..all my life i never been in charge a big group like this..however, i managed to do it successfully with all the participants cooperation especially my beluved C2 friends..they were very helpful and understanding..without them its quite hard for me to manage it..thanx big time guys!!!! luv u all..

10th feb 2009~1st day of the challenge..
it were WATER CONFIDENCE & CANOEING.
G1,G2,G3- do canoeing first..G4,G5,G6- do the water confidence.. then it rotated..i was in G5..water confidence was very interesting..the coach taught us several types of swimming, how to safe people yg lemas, basic knowledge about swimming for the beginner like me..huhuhuhu..overall mmg best giler..i feel more confident be in the water now..with the B.A's help.. then kayak..we were divided into pairs of male n female..my partner n i did not really faced prob when 'kayak'ing..it just like usual..it needed synchronization and cooperation and also communication..for the big group(G4,G5,G6) we did have a prob..at first we took the xtvtv just like a race..evrybody was trying their best to b at the front..however, when we did rafting, the coach advised us n told us that we were not compete each other..everybody must remember that they were part of the group..so,"kerjasama" is very important..we made it at last, tour satu pulau kt kenyir lake...bkn pulau kecik tau..personally, i couldnt believe it..hehehehe..walaupun sunburned teruk jgk ar tp mmg best giler..memory of life...=D

11th feb 2009~air terjun saok=jungle trekking,memancing,cooking contest
we started the day with a journey by boats to the air terjun saok which located brsambung dgn tmn negara,phg..from the entrance we had to climb brpuluh anak tangga..mcm kt batu caves pon ade rupenye..hehehehe...then we started our trekking..it was quite challenging bcoz byk duri2,lubang2 and also pacat...the path quite was slippery..we had to be extra careful..then after 30minutes walk, we smpi kt the air terjun..it was fascinating..there in our group we were asked to memancing...try to get as many as u can within 1hour..evrybody was xcited..mmg xcited giler..yg xpenah mancing pn kne mancing..dan mmg dpt ikan la..at least sekor sorg..coz port tu mmg byk ikn giler..huhuhuhu..after 1hour,we started back the journey down. after 20minutes walk,we stopped and had a cooking contest...every group had to get ready with main course and 3 kuih..for my group,we cook our ikan yg dipancing, sayur, sardin,cekodok coklat,cekodok bawang,cekodok sardin...it was interesting...we worked hard together as a team in order to finish it in time..pedih giler mata duk tiup api nk srh nyala...msk gune mestin n kayu api..mmg survival la...huhuhuhu...then blk ke base camp around 4..

smpi2 je kt base sdh ade tugasan menanti...within 3hours,all of us were given 6tugasan for the kebudayaan night..which were msk nsi grg,msk bihun,air minuman,desert,hiasan tempat,jemputan,bbQ..allocation of tugasan was made..sume group kne siapkn before 8.45pm becoz the kebudayaan night begins at 9 sharp..everyone made it..congratulation guys!!!!

11th feb 2009 <9>~ we had so much fun with all the persembahan...it were very enjoying and wonderful..they could manage to plan for their persmbahan walaupun byk giler tugasan kne buat...i laughed that smpi terkeluar air mata...best giler!!!!!! we ended the night at 12 after the reflection with en. zainol..that night also we had to kemas everything..kemas out kitchen, simpan khemah, pack personal things...dgn kerjasama from all the participants we managed to do it..

12th feb 2009~everybody woke up with very exciting face..coz today we were going back..selesai sdh segala penyeksaan ini..i was very exciting..bcoz my role would end soon...suke giler...xpayah yell dh kt bdk2 ni..hahahaha...after mjlis penutup, kami bebas..sesi bergambar tidak dilupakn..sume gave the last pose before leaving the pulau poh..then angkut all the bags in to the boat house...get into the boats n arrived at the jeti gawi..then angkut bags msuk bas,bilang B.A..after that, bilang peserta dlm bas...sume cukup jln..around 5 smpi mktb...the end of my job...

dugaan


jumaat~konon2 hari yg rajin la..i woke up early,lps solat.. swept the house..and planning to wash my car before going out to have breakfast at seri dewi..we were planning to have roti canai plus nasi beriyani..
i started washing my car part by part..in order to wash the front part i have to reverse my car so that the front becomes nearer to the hose..i get in the car..without closing the door, i reversed it..everything happens in a blink of eyes..my pintu kereta got stuck dkt pagar..then i realized it..
its too late now.. my myvi's door (kt driver)cannot be closed..all of this happened due to my clumsiness n careless..oh my god!!! what i'm going to do know..bengang ade...sedih ade...tgk baby myvi kesygn mcm tu..hancur hati aku~~nk mrh pn ade..tp nk mrh sape dh sndri yg buat (+_+) so, sendiri tanggung la.. esok i have to bawa myvi to the clinic...got to treat the wounds and stiches..hopefully she will be fine after that..i'm so sorry babe..
now..i'm stuck in my own house..cannot go anywhere at least for this two days' weekend..

however, i realized in the end..it was dugaan from HIM..mybe i was a bit 'melupakan-NYA' lately..solat lmbt..mngaji pn jarang2..i should change for better..n i know i have to..
